Mom’s Chocolate Cake Recipe

2 squares of baking chocolate

1/2 cup water

1 1/2 cup sugar

3 eggsex

1 cup buttermilk

1 tsp. baking powder

1/2 tsp. salt

1 tsp. vanilla

Melt chocolate with water.  Cream butter and gradually add sugar.  Add eggs and milk.  Mix salt and baking soda to flour and gradually add it to mixture.  Then, add chocolate and vanilla.  Pour into greased and floured pan.  Bake 350 degrees untill done.

Icing:

1/4 cup chocolate cocoa

1/3 cup milk

1/4 tsp. salt

1 cup sugar

1/4 cup shortening

1 tsp. vanilla

For icing, mix all ingredients except vanilla in sauce pan.  Cook untill soft balls form.  Remove from heat.  Add vanilla.  Let cool.
